Hey, this is Mike Kelly, CTO and co founder of MemberVault. I'm here today talking with Patrick King of Prana Wealth Management. And Patrick's been a MemberVault user for a while, his business has kind of grown and shifted. But what I really love about Patrick and his business and his story with MemberVault, is that he's not like the super techie nerdy. I love all these automations and integrations and stuff. He's just getting it done. So that's why I'm excited to talk to Patrick today. So how you doing, man?
Patrick King
Doing great, Mike, thank you for having me. And I think the the lesson here is that, hey, if this guy can make it work, you can make it work.
Mike Kelly
So real quick, Prana Wealth Management, it sounds really nice. And is such a slick website, but like, tell us a 40,000 foot view, like, what do you do? And what kind of people do you help?
Patrick King
Yeah, yeah, I, I help people learn how to retire. And I do that in a couple of different ways. So, you know, I've got a YouTube channel that just goes over general information to help people figure out how to retire. You know, that's not something that's typically taught in schools, you know, when you get to, you know, your age 60? Like, what do you do? Like, what is the stuff you have to sign up for? How much money do you really need all that, and then, you know, one on one I work with, with people to do financial planning, and, and then to help them get from their working years, to their retirement years. And so, I work with folks one on one, in that way, as well. So I'm a financial planner, but I just I teach people how to retire.
Mike Kelly
I love it. I love it. I'm gonna have to learn some of this stuff soon. I'm still young enough to ignore it. But I just think I just, I just figured when you like, turn 60 they send you a pamphlet of all the old people stuff you got to do. But that's probably not what happened so much. Not so much. Yeah, great. Well, so what kind of offers do you have? You've had your MemberVault account for a while, right? Like, what kind of offers do you have in your MemberVault? Like? What type of you know, how do you work with people?
Patrick King
Yeah, as far as MemberVault goes, you know, this has been an experiment, right? So I have experimented with using MemberVault for, you know, the lead magnet type things to capture leads and get emails for my email list. But more recently, you know, the YouTube channel that I mentioned, was was definitely a pandemic project where I really dedicated effort towards being consistent and it and I grew my channel. And so all of a sudden, I've got traffic. And in the admin of that, I am using MemberVault now to do you know, one of three things. I've got a free lead magnet and on there, so I could capture email address, get them in my Active Campaign, email list. And then I guess, start that marketing process. Although, you know, full disclosure, I'm terrible at that. So work on the whole email automation thing.
But anyway, so that's one thing I offer. One, it's it's a, I guess, it's a spreadsheet. It's a mini course that I created based on a couple of the YouTube videos that I created. I had a lot of interest in basically, I walked people through a simple method of figuring out if they have enough for retirement or not, like, are you okay, are you on track for retirement? So, I got so much feedback from those videos, I said, Well, why don't I just, you know, make this spreadsheet available to them online. And that's what AF guide is one offering and my member vault, it's the on track for retirement spreadsheet. And it's, it's 20 bucks.
And, and I just mentioned it in a couple of my YouTube videos, I've got it in the, I guess the description section there. And then finally, I've got another offering right now that just schedules folks for a one on one consultation with me, I call that retirement reality check. It's like a 40,000 foot view the or the drive by financial plan so to speak. So it's it's more of like a second opinion for folks who just want to know if they're going to be okay or not. So, and then of course, you know, people can get in touch with me about scheduling more in depth one on one consultation, you know, I've got ongoing clients as well. So I've gotten some, some contacts with folks because of that, who are interested in more of an ongoing relationship as well. So So those are the three things that I've got on member vault for right for right now.
Mike Kelly
And that's great. And see and this is what I think is gonna resonate with with people. And what's so inspiring about your story because I asked you, I'm like, Hey, man, do you want to be interviewed and you're like me, I'm like, Yeah, you. I mean, you know, full disclosure, you and I have been friends outside of MemberVault for four years now. And but I remember you kind of quit working at the firm. And then you were taking clients one on one. And then you started building some content. And you had some stuff on MemberVault. And it's like, you had all these things out there. And then in the last year, I feel like it's a lot of it has come together and made this very cohesive thing. So I you know, I just I want to say that because so many people feel like a hot mess, and you feel this, you still feel like a hot mess.
Patrick King
Oh, totally. Yeah. And I am. When it comes to this stuff, I mean, I'm a I'm a really good financial planner. But you know, I started this firm, back in 2017. And, you know, all of a sudden, I'm a very amateur marketer, right? Yeah.
Mike Kelly
So, uh, no, but that's what that's what I think the beauty is here. And and so you work one on one with people. You had a nice client list you were doing well. You started your YouTube, I remember your first YouTube video. And I was like, Dude, this is this is good. And and you're like, No, this is amateur hour. I'm like, No, this is good. And you kept you kept doing it. And then you realize, like, wow, I got a lot of traffic in here. I got a lot of eyeballs. People are really liking it. Because you're delivering value. You're delivering valuable content. Right? And then I remember I was talking to you on Voxer, I was like, all you got to do is kind of drop, get get get that traffic from your podcast in your moment for me. Yeah. And to your YouTube into your MemberVault. And as soon as you did that, you were like, oh my god, I'm getting all these signups like people are converting themselves. And I think that's the big thing.
That is so good, right? I think people get hung up on like, there's too much tech. And oh, I need to have all these funnels and these deadlines and these automations and these things, right. But at the end of the day, it's about delivering value, getting attention, getting them into your MemberVault where you have your offers there, and people will help themselves. Right. Like you're not doing any pushy marketing that I know of.
Patrick King
Not really in the stuff that I am doing, I'm probably not doing well. So yeah, it kind of is its own thing. It really, it really just it tickles me I feel like, you know, you know, first of all, really, I think you said you touched on something that I'm, I'm genuinely trying to help people. So it is, you know, whether it's the YouTube content, or the you know, the what, I've got a MemberVault, it's, I'm there, I'm trying to help people figure out, you know, how to how do I make this retirement thing work? Am I okay, so everything kind of comes from that place. And, you know, I think that's the, that's the whole key really is it's just part of that conversation that I'm trying to have with folks.
Mike Kelly
Yeah, and I love that you're building a brand. And what's great is that you are flexible, your business is clearly flexible, and MemberVault is flexible too, like you said at the top of this call, it's all big experiment it all of our businesses are big experiments. And so I think just leaning into that and being like, Yeah, we're gonna try some stuff and, you know, roll the punches, and see, see what works, see what doesn't work. And I just, I love that you have these, you know, you got your one on one people, you have your YouTube channel, you have your MemberVault. And you're starting to build courses now, too, right?
Patrick King
That's the idea. Yeah, you know, I guess one of one of my, I've got a big goal about, you know, the number of people that I want to really help, you know, to help improve their financial life. And, and so part of that means, okay, you know, I've got a limited bandwidth with timelines to work with folks one on one, but I still can be helpful if I can somehow, you know, take that process, maybe simplify it a little bit, and then create an online course where people can kind of walk themselves through that.
And yeah, that way, I'm not, you know, my, my time is, you know, not limited by the number of hours in a day, or the number of people I serve isn't limited by the number of hours, I haven't a day. So that's the next step for me is to create a little bit more of an intense, I guess, online course experience for for these folks who, you know, okay, maybe the, the spreadsheet isn't quite enough. It's not quite nuanced. And you know, of course, that's, you know, obviously, very simplified, but, but there there is a step between between that and, you know, the the hours and hours and hours that I spend with one on one clients who really, really need and want that, like that, that level of attention.
There's a big gap between those two things, and I feel like there's a huge opportunity there for me to fill that. So one of my big projects for 2022 is to is to create that so you know, we'll see still is a lot of work to be done on on that one, but that's yeah, that's part of the plan for this year.
Mike Kelly
Well, I love it. And again, so many people are in your position where they're working one on one, they're successful that, but that's not that's only scalable to a certain point. And there is that gap that you're trying to identify. Great. So Hey, real quick, I know, I kind of skipped past this, and you mentioned it, but I always kind of like to give people an idea of like, what are the tech tools that you're using? I know, MemberVault, obviously, an Active Campaign, right.
Patrick King
Active Campaign. But you know, a really, you know, if someone's listening to this, or watching this right now, and they go up and sign up for my email list, I really not sure what they're going to get. So please go easy on me, if you sign up. I try to try to get a monthly newsletter out. I got COVID at the beginning of the year, so I missed a couple there. But But But I try to at least do a once a month newsletter. I don't know what the automations are, are doing right now. So but that's ActiveCampaign. I really like ActiveCampaign a lot. Obviously, I need to do better on that. I guess YouTube is the is the number one, I guess it's not an app, but it's the big focus for me, as far as my marketing content goes. I use you know, Canva is? It's that's one of the subscription services that I pay every month that you know, not upset about. Yeah, yeah, totally. But I really don't know, I do use CO schedule for my social media posts. Not not great on social media, but but I do like to leverage co schedule. Then of course, MemberVaults. Up there, obviously. But trying to think if there's anything else, Mike?
Mike Kelly
No, I mean, you have a simple setup. And that's kind of my point is that you don't need some massive tech stack. They even call it they call it a tech stack. And that makes it sound like a tower.
Patrick King
I've got a tech stuff for my actual business. Right, my the financial planning side of things you get like, sure, sure.
Mike Kelly
I don't want to know about that. I don't, I don't want to know about that. There's Yeah, yeah. So no, that's great again, and you know, and just closing this out. I mean, the, I think the moral of your story is you're out there, you're serving people, you know, you're working one on one people, you're putting out great content, you know, YouTube is where you're getting your eyeballs and traffic. You know, and remember, it's not about getting you eyeballs, right? But it's what you do with those eyeballs. Or if you're a podcaster your ears or whatever, like getting the attention of people and then what do you do with that?
And I think that's where people kind of get hung up and you are living that life. And yeah, it's just, it's an honor. So I appreciate you taking the time to talk to us about your big experiment. And where can people find out where can people sign up for your half baked automations?
