The one thing I don't like about podcasting

Full Episode Transcript

Hey, hey, I am back with a second episode. Yay. Yay for continuity. So I was so funny this morning I was thinking about talking about the that I love podcasting. I've been doing podcasts for over five years now. And I've used a bunch of different tools. And my, I've been in love with anchor for a while now I think I've done like four podcasts with them. And it's definitely my go to recommendation.

So if you are looking for a new podcast host, or if you're wanting to start a new podcast, I highly recommend anchor they make it crazy simple, and it's free. So like there's just like zero barrier. But the big thing that I was thinking about like that I love so much about podcasting is that it's it's easy for me to do quickly, I can do it in my closet or my car like parked obviously. And it's such a great way to communicate as an introvert that doesn't drain my energy. That is a higher impact because it can, it's scalable. You can pull transcripts and turn it into blog posts. Like there's so many things I love about podcasting.

But the one thing I don't like is that there is no really great way to get a feedback loop going on like a conversation with your with your listeners. And, like I know you can do a review. But that's kind of like a one off like I really liked the show, like, it's not really a great call to action. Like when you're trying to have a conversation about a topic on a particular episode. So that's been like my big kind of hang up. And I know that some people choose to like they'll have a branded hashtag.

And I certainly one of the things I've done is, you know, I prompt people to send me an email. But I hate that you're still asking them to like you're asking the listener to leave where they are listening to the podcast and engage with you somewhere else. Because a there's more friction, it's less likely people are going to do it.

Or if they aren't on that platform, like if you're asking people to go to facebook or instagram and use a branded hashtag, like, well, if they don't use that platform, or if they don't have it on their phone, like myself, like, I took Instagram and Facebook off my phone, like six months ago and haven't added them back. And so like, it's just not gonna happen, like, I might be listening to a podcast on my phone, and have the best intentions to go and get on Facebook or Instagram on my computer.

Well, I guess it would just be Facebook. But like, I'm just not going to remember. And so it's just, it's not a really like streamlined flow. And then that makes it feel like both as the creator like you want to know, is this resonating, you know, have like a quick feedback loop of you know, are my listeners enjoying this? What did they think about this? And I think it's really fun to also have a conversation, like, do you have anything to add to this, especially in the context of this particular podcast, like what we're going to be talking about, I would love to hear like how it resonates for you like how your experience is different and really get a conversation going.

And so that's, you know, obviously a branded hashtag would would do that on social media. But, but again, it's not really that it's not a great convenience thing for the listener. And it's not great for me, because I'm really trying not to be on social media very much. And so, you know, we have we, we have the ability to embed podcast episodes inside of member vault, and you can have quiz questions inside of your lesson inside of member vault. So that's one way you can do it. But you're still asking them, you're still asking the listener to go somewhere else.

And there's higher friction, because if they're not logged in to the MemberVault, they don't remember the past. Like, it's just, there's too many hoops to jump to make it an easy, free flowing conversation. So one of the things that I've seen in my marketing forecast business emails that I subscribe to, is that in his like, in the last couple of years, video was like the big thing. But that a lot of people are forecasting that audio is going to be getting bigger and bigger podcasts are continuing to grow like they're not going away. And that there's a really big opportunity here for the podcast platforms to improve this particular limitation like give give listeners an ability to communicate with each other and with the creator of the podcast show.

So I look forward to seeing hopefully innovation there. But it was really cool, because this morning, I picked up my phone, and I had a notification on a different podcast show that one of the listeners Remi had sent me a voice message and I knew that anchor could do this. I've tried to do it in the past and run into people having issues like with the technical aspects. So I was like, okay, like that's a great idea, but like it didn't really work. But clearly it worked for me. And so maybe they've improved the process actually just sent her a reply voicemail to share this.

Like it was so exciting to get that because it's a feedback loop and it's really cool and I got to hear her as she after Right after she had listened to the episode, share her takeaways and like, inspire her to go. And it was for our Optimize MV products podcast. And so she was like, Oh my gosh, like this was such a great episode, like I can't wait to go do what you were talking about. And so like that, as a creator is very inspiring, and it keeps you motivated and like showing up and all that good stuff. So and then the other really cool thing is that, and once I kind of figure out like how to make this as easy as possible.

For other people, one of the other cool things is anchor makes it really easy for you to take that little sound bite. And it's like, I know, the reply to her was capped at one minute, I don't know if hers was, hers was I think 44 seconds. So probably it's also capped at one minute. But you can easily add them to those audio clips to episodes. So like I could actually do a topic on here and then be like, share your experience in one minute or less. And then I'll do like a compilation episode so that we can hear each other's voices, and we can hear other voices and other perspectives. So totally, like, Yay, this is so exciting.

And it was also just really funny because it was something that I was thinking about. And then I picked up my phone, actually keep the phone out of the bedroom. And so like I didn't have it next to me. And so I picked it up later, after I was up and moving around, and I saw that I had no vacation. I was like, Oh my gosh, this is so cool. So yeah, as I figured out how to do this, I will be sharing here because I think it's really cool, both so that we can communicate better.

And so that we can make this an even more collaborative podcast talking about the interesting experience of being a CEO or business owner is also a mom or parents. Because it's just, it is just a different reality. So so I'm really excited about this. And it was just really cool to get that feedback loop because that is something that has been kind of bothering me and see. Here's another thing where I'd be like, how do you like to get feedback from your on your podcast? Or how do you how would you like to get feedback? Do you like branded hashtags? Like what do you think?

This is like somewhere where it would be so nice to have just like a comment thread underneath a podcast episode where people could could chat back and forth and easily share that share their experience with like how without having to go above and beyond.

So but yeah, if you see the ability to send a voice message on your phone or wherever you're listening, please do. I would love to hear from you. And if you want to share your thoughts about this episode for right now, you can email me at erin@membervault.co
