How to include a one time offer for your MemberVault products

Hey, hey, Erin Kelly here, CEO and co founder of MemberVault vaults, and I am sitting in my Park car again.

And it is really cold and I'm wearing a very puffy jacket. So if you hear a lot of rustling, that is what you were hearing in real life, right. So today I wanted to talk about something that a lot of people want to do in their member vaults, and they don't realize it's possible.

And that is having a one time offer when somebody signs up for a different product, giving them an offer, for a complimentary product or a special deal on. Maybe it's not directly complimentary, but it's, you know, something that you think will be useful and relevant to the person that just signed up for this other thing. And I will, we'll dig into this a little bit more if you're like, Huh, if you're not familiar with one time offers, so this is something that comes up pretty frequently in the Facebook user community, the collaborative, where people are wanting to do order bumps, upsells downsells, one time offers.

And if you're new to online business, that is definitely a lot of jargon. But it's basically just,

they are always for you to if done, if done in the MemberVault way, they are ways for you to supportively sell to your audience. So you are basically doing the equivalent of in real life where you buy something or you order something, and you get a Hey, like this goes really well with this thing that you just got, right. And so it can feel really supportive, it does not need to feel like you are nickel and nickel and diming someone or you're doing high pressure or you know, etc, etc. Now, there are ways to make it feel that way, like a lot of timers.

And if there's like a bunch of offers stacked on top of each other so that you, I'm sure you've gone through a checkout process online, where you buy something, and then it's like, well, do you want this? And then you go through that pay that window? And it's like, well, what about this? Or what about this, like, people can go a little out of control with us so but there are some ways for you to create this type of experience for the good experience, to be clear, the good experiences supportive experience for your users inside of MemberVault. And to be clear, I mean,

we haven't been our payment feature hasn't been around that that long. I mean, it probably feels like it's been around for a long time for our users. But in terms of code years, it hasn't really been around that long, it's still a relatively new feature that doesn't have a lot of

bells and whistles yet. And so know that we are that is one of the things that we want to continue to improve. And while we might never be as robust with as many options as a standalone payment tool, like thrive cart, or Sam cart, because that's all they do, right, so they get to really optimize the experience. While we met, we may never be as snazzy as that. It is our intention to always be improving the checkout process, giving more options for you to create these supportive selling experiences for your people. And just, you know, making it a win win for you to use member vaults and sell using member vault and for your users to by using member vault and making it as seamless and easy as possible. And so there's a lot of different tweaks and improvements and additions that we want to make

to our checkout process. But just know that that is that is something that is very important to us. And it is a core feature that we are going to continue to evolve and improve on. But it works really well right now. I mean, we we sell quite a bit through our own member vaults for like our lifetime plans. And we've done quite a few, like masterminds and all kinds of stuff, and it works. So

it's just not quite as fancy as like you can't do like split tests and, you know, things that you can do with some of these, these standalone payment tools, or even Course Tools necessarily that have been around for a lot longer or that have bigger budgets than we do. So if you if you're feeling like oh, like it's too basic, you know, we are going to always be improving that. And if it is really important to you to have all those bells and whistles, either, you know, use an outside tool, a thrive cart, or Sam cart, or maybe MemberVault. It's not right for you right now. So

but how to do a one time offer this was one of those things that, like I said, comes up very frequently and our user community and someone one of our certified partners was like, Oh, yeah, this is how I do it. And it's so funny when you know, you are so deep in your own tool. And you haven't even as a strategy brain like I am like you haven't even realized that you could do that. I was like, Oh my gosh, that's so smart. And so we actually I had her do a workshop for us around how she sets up her one time offer.

And so what she does is she puts it inside of her thank you message. So after someone signs up for it can be a free or paid product inside of your member Well, there is a thank you message that shows up that's like, Yay, like you, you and you can customize it right. So it's like, you can put whatever you want in there, I think most of you will probably just leave the, the the automated content that's in there, which is like you now have access to and then it says the product name, and then it has their login information. But you can add whatever you want, you can add a gift, like you can add.

Like I said, one time offer which I'm going to go into more

you can you can add,

you know, a message around, like make sure that you add me to your to your approved email senders list so that you know this, you know any emails about this product, don't go into your spam, like you can put whatever you want in there. And so what she had done is she had put her one time offer in there, I was like that is so smart. So she did a workshop for us. And normally the replay of that workshop is locked down inside of the MB insider product, which is only accessible for our paid users. But I thought it'd be fun for since we're talking about this right now.

And because it's a challenge, where you can get a boost. So over in the Facebook community, there's a append announcement challenge. And I will make a pretty link for it and add that. add that in here to the show notes. But so if you're listening to this, like three weeks from now, and it's not, you know, it's not the top pinned post anymore, you'll still be able to find it, because there's no expiration on our challenge post. So you can go through and do all of our challenges over in the collaborative and rack up a bunch of boosts in your MemberVault account. But the challenge is to set up a one time offer, and, and to share. And so the the challenge post has, like you know the steps to go through. So I thought it'd be fun for me to actually unlock the workshop replay where cam actually walks through exactly how to set it up. And she even included a product template inside of her workshop and a Canva template if you're not graphically inclined. And she also has a really great freebie that she is or a gift that she is giving people that are watching that workshop. So

definitely a really good thing to check out and I unlocked it so anyone can access, it's in a teaser module until May 1, and you can get that by going to membervault.co forward slash Oto. And you don't have to sign up or anything like it's just open access. So just know that that's how you can use the teaser module, great example of how to do that. And then, and what I did is actually just copy the the workshop replay module that's you know, inside of MV Insider, and made the copy a teaser module, it's that simple. So you can totally do that. That's like a little side tangent thing that you can do with your products. If you want to generate some buzz, or if you want to make something, a teaser, to increase conversions or whatever during a launch, like just know that you can copy anything that is in a locked product and make it a teaser module. And then you'll be able to just delete it when you don't want it to be promoted anymore. So you can see that, again by going to member vault.co forward slash Oto. And Karen actually walks you through exactly how to, you know set up this one time offer using the thank you message area. And she included a product template that you can import into your member vault. So that you don't have to start from scratch, and also a Canva template. So it's really, really good. And she's a really good teacher. And I highly recommend it. And that will be available for anyone to access until May first and then after that it will only be available again instead of MB Insider, which is our product for our paid users. So if you're listening to this after May 1 and you're like oh no, I missed it, well just know that you can upgrade to a paid account and you'll still be able to access that workshop replay. So a one time offer. So I actually, you know, I'm using these challenges as a really good way for me to, to dig in and use MemberVault as a user, because that's one of the best ways that we have tweaked the platform over the last couple of years is actually using it ourselves. And so I'm using this as a really great like, not only am I telling you to do it, but I'm also doing it on our end. And so let's go a little bit into the strategy a one time offer. So I was thinking what can I use as the one time offer? And what am I going to attack what product Am I going to attach it to. And so for the product that you want to attach it to I would recommend that because you want a bunch of people to see this right. So I would recommend that you in my opinion that you put it on a free product inside of your member vaults. Now you don't have any free products. If you are only using your MemberVault for paid products, then choose your lowest price or your highest converting product, the one that sells the most. And put it inside of that thank you message right because you want as many people to see it as possible. And so for us, it's a little bit more complicated because it's like well, our highest converting offer is

Is the free member of our plan. And that's not in our member vault. And so what I am choosing to do is i'm using the lightning fast courses resource product that we have that's free, that's been very popular. And the other thing is they have to actually sign up for it. So it can be something that you're giving access to them automatically using like web hooks, because they won't see the thank you message. And so that added another kind of like kink for us. Because, like our onboarding products, and stuff like that, like we give them automatic access, so they wouldn't ever even see the thank you message. So what I am choosing to do is i'm using our lightning fast course, resource, and so that's going to go, if you haven't checked that out, it's a really great free resource around how to create micro courses and pre sell them. And so actually sell them before you actually have the content created. And people have raved about, it's been a really, really great product, and we haven't really promoted it in a while. So I felt like this would be a really great opportunity to play around with the one time offer and kind of revitalize that that product, because it's so good. People have gotten really good results from it. So you can check out that product. And as of recording this, I don't have the one time offer in there, but I'm going to be doing it this week. So depending on when you're listening to this episode, the one time offer might be in the thank you message. Or it might not be if you're listening to this, like as soon as I publish. But you can check out lightning fast courses@membervault.co forward slash l f c. And so that's what I'm going to put the one time offer. And then the question is that I had to think about was okay, well, what should I use as a one time offer. So in my opinion, one time offers work really well. If they are a low cost, kind of impulse buy sort of thing, and that it's relevant to

whatever the person is signing up for, right so that it's going to help them with whatever it is that they they've already signed up for, that they've already demonstrated interest in. And so

that's if you want to give them a product, like if you want to do a one time offer, that's actually another product. Now if you don't have a lot of products inside of your MemberVault, or you don't have a lot of content, you can always just do a discount code that is available for like, one of your other products or

that's available for all of your products, or you know, or a special product, it's like, you know, that's not visible, you can get really creative with what your one time offer, you know, thing might be and it might even not even it might not even be something paid, it might be something that you're using, let's say you are a service provider, and you pretty much only, I noticed is super common with service providers as someone that used to be one,

you pretty much only have one to one offers. And so you might be listening to this and you're like, well, that's great, like someday in the future, when I have a digital, when I have a digital product that scalable, like, that's what I'll do. But what you can do is you could use the one time offer space, and that thank you message for your freebie or whatever, as a great opportunity to validate some new one to one clients. And so you could either give them, you know, like a free 15 minute session on voxer or a, you know, assess a free assessment product

that you don't normally like you don't have publicly available, because you want to make sure that it's someone that's actually like on your list. And that is has demonstrated that they are interested in what you talk about. And you know, you can totally do it like that. And that's a different, you know, going deeper into those strategies, obviously, obviously a different podcast episode.

And, and if you want to kind of give yourself a little bit of urgency to create a digital product, you know, you've always wanted to have a course or toolkit or something like that, that's completely scalable. You can use the information that's in the lightning fast courses, resource to help you pre sell. And so that could even be the presale could even be the the one time offer. So you don't even need the content yet. So like you could totally be like,

inside of your freebie, thank you message, it could be like, awesome, you just got access to this challenge, or to this resource kit or whatever you're calling it. Whatever your freebie is, you know, my subscribers have or whatever. And, like know that I like based on all the amazing insights that I've gotten from my clients and from my audience. I'm really excited to create x. And so x would be the thing that you're pre selling. And so it could be a workshop, it could be a course it could be, you know, a mastermind like it could be whatever.

And say be always be very clear. And I say this in lightning fast courses resource as well. You know, be very clear that content is not ready yet. Because boy will people get mad if they buy something and they think they're going to get into access and then it's not ready for a month. So if you're very clear about like this is this is something

I'm creating, it will be ready on x date, and you are getting first dibs on it

by buying now and so when I talk about this a lot, and lightning fast courses, you know, it's really great to have like an additional bonus or access to you or something like that as part of your presale. So it's like, if you join now, as an early bird, before the content is ready, like you're gonna get access to this, like, you know, initial workshop that no one else is going to get access to, or you get access to me inside of the community before everybody else joins or, you know, however you want to do it, there's so many different strategies there. But just know that like, the one time offer

is very flexible. And so if you're feeling like, well, this is a great idea. But I don't have anything that fits the bill, I encourage you to get creative. And think about stuff that you that you want to create that you've kind of always had, you have on the back burners, I know it's very hard to

focus on things that you want to create in your own business, especially if your service provider or coach where you're doing a lot of one to one. And so it's it's your time goes to your clients and you hardly ever get to focus on your own business. So this is a really great way, if you wanted to follow the lightning fast courses, kind of framework. I mean, it doesn't have to be a course. But if you want to follow that framework of like pre selling something that you don't have yet, this would be a great, great place for you to get some exposure on it. Or to get some exposure on a special deal. And then have a public, you know, be publicly sharing the presale. So I digress, I know it kind of went off on a bunch of different tangents. But I just want to give you a bunch of different ideas in terms of what you could use as your one time offer. So for us, we have this product called 52 emails to sell, motivate, engage. And it's a swipe file of 52 email templates, because that's something that has been really popular throughout the entirety of member vaults. And when I was an online business manager, one of my big focuses was email marketing. And so that's always been one of the things that comes really easily to me, and I see a lot of people struggle with.

And so I created that really early on and MemberVault days, I think it's at least two years old. And it has gone through a couple of different phases in terms of how we've sold it. So initially, we just sold it as like a, you know, one time low cost, you know, I think it was like $20 or something, right? And then we used it to test out having multiple payment options for pay what you can, which was a really fun experiment, then we use that as a, this is included for all paid accounts. And so if you upgrade, you get this for free. So we did that for a while. And honestly, we really haven't, we haven't done a lot with it in the last six months plus, like almost really a year. And, and I a couple of months ago, I actually turned it invisible. Just because I was decluttering our membership site. So I was like this would be perfect, this would be a perfect opportunity. I know this product has performed really well for people, but we haven't done anything with it in a long time has to be a great way to like spend a little bit of time, you know, adding some stuff, cleaning it up a little bit, adding some zazz you know, and it would make a really great one time offer. So I took off the you know, the fact that it's included for free for paid accounts I took off, you know, is not no longer in the copy and is no longer

through webhooks it's no longer given to paid accounts, because we weren't marketing that like it wasn't part of our messaging. So it was really kind of like a wasted effort there.

And then I you know,

we revamped the product image, you're on our team who is amazing with graphics, she she did that. And then she's whipping up a one time offer graphic image. And so we got this already. And I took off all of the additional payment options because I like I said I had a couple of different I think it was like 919 and 29 for pay what you can. And I went back and I looked so this is something that's really important. And I know that I'm covering a lot of stuff here. So hopefully I'm not like totally exploiting your brain here. But this is one of those more complicated challenges and since that there's like a lot of different things to cover.

But for the thing that I want to be really clear about is if you are selling something that you want to do a one time offer on

and it's going to be at like a really, really reduced price that other people have paid full price for. It's really important to consider about the consider the people that have already paid the full price like how are they going to feel if they see that one time offer and I know that some some online businesses think they can hide that they can hide those like really big deals for people that have already paid in full. And that's just not true because here's the reality is a lot of people have different email addresses. People talk to people share. And so and I read a really great article about assume that your people know everything like don't do any

Pricing deals that you wouldn't want other people to know about. Right. So like, make sure that you feel good about that. And I know that this is, this is probably a whole nother podcast episode to really talk about because I know that people pricing is one of those things that

is uncomfortable, and it's confusing, and it's emotional. And

and there's a lot of like, well, like, you know, they bought it a while ago. So why should they get? Why should I be considering that, like people have all kinds of opinions and feelings about this. But what we try and do is again, nope, assume that your people know everything. So if someone has paid full price for something, and then a week later, they show him this one time offer where they get 50% off, make sure that you have a plan for that, like either reach out to them and let them know that they're going to get something extra, reach out to them. And let them know that, you know, we actually just did this with the with the hamster awards that we just released is like, you know, all of the Golden hamsters get an opportunity within seven days to earn an extra boost, if they upgrade to a paid account was like Okay, so what do you do for the people that already have a paid account? They get a golden hamster? Do they get that boost? And so for us, the answer is yes, of course they do. And I actually said that in the conditional content of those emails, like, hey, just so you know, like, this is something that we're giving to our free users upgrade within seven days. But since you're already a paid user, and you're, and we so appreciate you supporting us, like, we're gonna just give it to you.

So I, I like to operate from that standpoint, because if you don't have uncomfortable customer service Plus, you know, obviously, it feels good. But also, you don't have uncomfortable customer service conversations, where people are like, Well, hey, like, Why are you giving free users

you know, all of this stuff, and like, I've been around for a while, like, I'm not getting anything. So always consider your, your paying clients to when you're coming up with these, these pricing deals. And so what I did is I took all of the prices I looked at historically over the last year, like how much people paid, on average for the 52 emails. And I chose to keep the one that like almost everyone did, I think we only had a few people that did the highest, which was 29. But I'm comfortable with that, because they did it like back in last May. And they're going to be getting all the improvements that we're making. So it's not just like, we're doing this one time offer, but we're also cleaning it up, we're adding some some additional things, which is going to help it convert better, right. So like it's a win win win kind of thing. And make sure when you're thinking about this, that

you you're making decisions that don't fill you with resentment that don't

make you super overwhelmed, right, like, very often you feel like you have to, like throw all this extra stuff on and and no, it doesn't have to be that big, they could just be little tweaks that bring more value, could be a couple of emails that you send to people that have purchased in the past, you know, like,

or, let me rephrase that. Like, it could be that you're setting up some, some nurture emails for that product. And you can reach out to the people that bought that product a year ago and be like, hey, heads up, like I'm revamping this, this product, because I'm going to be promoting it. Again. And I know you bought this a while ago, but just you can either opt into this or just know that this is coming. And it'll help you if you haven't yet fully like optimize in use this product like this is going to be really helpful for you too. So it's again, it's like, as with everything we talked about, it's all about having conversations with your people.

So that is what we're going to be doing as our one time offers the 52 emails. And so I did, I left it at $19. And then I think what I'm going to do, for our one time offer on the lightning fast courses, thank you message is going to be like, hey, like now you now you have everything you need to pre sell. But like, You're also going to want to have some emails to to keep people engaged and motivated and like moving into other products and stuff, which case like you should totally snag our 52 emails, which is normally $19. But you can get it if you buy it now, you can get it for 50% off with this coupon code. And so that's just a really, it's a really supportive thing. It's fun, it'll, you know, get more visibility, I'm probably going to keep our 52 emails

and visible for right now, because I'm testing this. But you can also just look at who's buying it. If it's a visible product that you're doing. Like you can also just see how many people are buying with your coupon code that you're using for your one time offer. Right? So there's so many different ways to do this. And so the the main, the main thing for you to consider is, you know, what product Am I attaching it to? What product is or offer is the one time offer that I'm putting in that thank you message. And then like I said, because I do think this is really important that people forget to do. How is this going to how is this going to feel for people that have already bought this thing if it's if the one time offer is something that people have purchased at full price

So it's just like a really good thing thought exercise for you to think through.

And I know a lot of times people don't go into this and it adds another layer. And I hope I haven't overwhelmed you. Because I know that it's

it's one of those brand puzzles that can leave you stuck in like, I don't know, how should I do this? What do I do, and don't do that, like Don is better than perfect, don't overcomplicate it for yourself, but I did want to bring up I think the points that are, you know, the most important. So,

again, if you want to see how to set up your one time offer, and Karen goes into, like the strategy too. So if this podcast episode left you feeling a little like, I'm excited, but I don't really know like, now I have all these have more questions than answers at this point, the workshop replays, probably a really good place for you to start because you'll be able to see it, which I think also really helps with your thinking cap and like getting you inspired. And definitely post in the collaborative, which you can go to membervault.co forward slash collab CO, LL A, B, and do a post, like, Hey, I'm brainstorming what I should do for my one time offer. And I listed there as podcasts. And I now have more questions than answers. And I'm not sure and feel free to tag me because I love brainstorming this kind of stuff. Like it's super fun for me. So I might not see your tag if I get if I get tagged by a bunch of people, but feel free to tag me. And there's a bunch of users on there that love geeking out on this stuff too. Feel free to post a link to a product that you're considering or multiple products that you're considering. Or just share, you know I have, I have these different products, which one do you think would be a good one time offer us the collaborative, it's such a great place to get inspiration and support and motivation, and be able to move forward because it's such a great way for you to bring in more cash flow and to support your users. And so I don't want you to get stuck. So the workshop replay with the step by step, and the product template and the Canva template by our certified partner, you can get that for free, no signup required or anything, just go and watch it. And it has captions and a transcript, you can get that by going to member vault.co forward slash Oto, which is you know, one time offer. And again, that's going to be open and unlocked until May 1 and then after that, if you're listening to this episode after that it will be available inside of MB Insider, which is available and accessible for our paid users. So if you upgrade to a paid account, you'll get access to that workshop replay. For for lifetime. So I think that pretty much covers everything. I think it's a really, it's exciting. It can be a little overwhelming. I was a little overwhelmed when I was initially like, oh, what will I do.

But if you just take it one step at a time, it's a really great way I thought this was this was a quotable that someone said about the the tips that I share, she was like, they are really great because I can work on them in the margins of my day, which I was like, Oh, that's like a copywriter for their margins of my day. And I realized like how much farther I've gotten by taking these little steps. So this is like one of those things that you can just

don't try and conquer in a day. Like if it's really overwhelming to you, if you don't have everything in place, if you don't have the products, if you don't have that stuff. Like Don't, don't feel like you can't do it just kind of like break it down into, okay posts in the collaborative, get some inspiration, like, share, share who you help, and how you help and what products that you think would be a good fit. And let people you know, brainstorm with you so that you can then watch the workshop replay. And then start to build it on your MemberVault. And then you'll have like, this is one of those things is evergreen. And so after you have it set up like you're gonna have, it's like an additional sales message that you don't have to send an email out for like you don't have to launch it like it's just always kind of there as you're promoting your freebie. So I think it's super valuable. That's why I wanted to do it as a challenge. And again, I will put the link inside of the show notes because I don't have the shortened link yet. But I did a challenge post inside of the collaborative. And so if you show us what you did for your one time offer and that you did the work, you'll get a boost in your member vault account of 150. So that'll increase your user limit. And just know that if you're on a free plan, that won't activate until you upgrade to a paid plan, but that they don't expire. So you can accumulate those you can do all of our challenges, you can win your hamster awards, and you'll be growing that boost number over time. And then when or if you upgrade to a paid account that will that will all activate. So I will drop the link to that challenge inside of the show notes but also, once I have it but also it's one of the pinned announcement posts, and I'm adding challenge topics too. So you can search by the challenge topic inside of the collaborative to find all the challenges and you can do all of them. And I'm trying to make them all very actionable and useful to us so that you can just again,

do it do these things in the margins of your day. Whether you're a service provider or a coach and you don't

don't have a lot of time for your business like that's what we're here for is to motivate you so that you can be doing some of these more scalable things and setting stuff up. So that you can be getting engagement and sales while you're doing all of your one to one work and while you're, you know, while you're working on other people's businesses or helping other people so again, you can go you can just search on Facebook for collaborative MV collaborative, or you can go to member vault.co forward slash collab co Ll AB. So I may I will make sure to drop all the links in the show notes that I've mentioned. I know there have been quite a few

but I would love to see where you are here where you are. So post in the collaborative share what you're doing what you're thinking, you know, where you're getting stuck all that stuff and if it's, I know this is a long podcast episode, but I will definitely do some follow up episodes if this is something that like there's a lot of questions around. Or, you know, some maybe share some inspirational stories, because I do think this is a really fun thing to to do with your member vault.
